When it comes to power and response, sometimes less is more.
We’ve thought things out.
Things that work against efficiency – like excess pounds, and uneven weight distribution – don’t belong in a nimble, responsive, fuel-efficient car.
BMW’s lightweight construction starts with an all-aluminum suspension; a front end that incorporates aluminum components; and engines made
of materials that are remarkably light in weight, yet able to withstand the stresses of running at high rpms. Sometimes the difference in weight
may be small – but when made in a critical area, like an engine part, it can have a major impact in performance. Decreased weight also enhances
fuel efficiency. The combined effects of BMW’s lightweight construction and near-perfect 50/50 weight distribution can be felt in the 5 Series’
heightened steering response and agile handling – the very qualities that give it that “BMW feel.”
