THE M TWIN POWER TURBO EIGHT-CYLINDER PETROL
ENGINE. DOUBLE TURBOCHARGING FOR DOUBLE DRIVING
PLEASURE.
M TwinPower Turbo eight-cylinder petrol engine22 23
Extremely appealing – the meeting of M-typical linear power delivery
and the massive boost of double turbocharging in the BMW X M and
the BMW X M. This is ensured by the combination of the M TwinPower
Turbo eight-cylinder petrol engine with a cross-bank exhaust manifold,
two TwinScroll turbochargers with Double-VANOS and High Precision
Injection. As for the gures, the high-performance powerplant, with
its maximum torque of Nm and output of kW catapults both
vehicles from zero to km/h in just . seconds. The charging concept,
specially developed and patented for this engine, ensures spectacular
responsiveness levels not usually associated with a turbo. In addition,
maximum acceleration values are guaranteed by the M Sport automatic
transmission which boasts impressively quick shift times in either manual
mode or via the optional M gearshift paddles on the steering wheel.
There are also two different engine and transmission management
modes. Sport is designed for peak dynamics – the car accelerates
powerfully, accompanied by a sound that raises goosebumps each time
you touch the pedal – while Ef cient mode delivers a more moderate
engine response and earlier gear changes, for comfortable and relaxed
driving as well as reduced fuel consumption. Both modes can be called
up via the M Drive button on the steering wheel.
Maximum torque is available across an extremely broad rev range, from , to ,rpm,
ensuring consistently high pulling power and linear power development from just above
idle all the way to the upper engine speeds.
Information on fuel consumption and CO
emissions can be found on pages  | .
Twin Scroll Twin Turbo technology with a cross-bank exhaust manifold:
the exhaust ows from each of two cylinder pairs with a ° ring interval
are combined and routed along separate channels to exclude any cross-
interference of the gas ows. This highly ef cient charging concept makes
for optimal energy transmission – and ultimately the fastest turbo engine
responses in the world.
